Why choose In The Name Publishing?Because we are passionate about stories and their authors, and we believe in a better, more accessible, more transparent way of publishing. Our CEO founded this company after a tremendously bad experience with a traditional publishing house. We won’t go into details, but suffice to say the experience almost made her quit writing. What a waste that would have been! Furthermore, our directorial team includes authors, designers, and editors, which allows us to give a holistic approach to publishing. You can learn more on Our Story and Mission Statement pages, but in short, we believe that stories are purposeful and powerful, and we want to get more quality books out in the world. We are the best of both worlds: unlike a traditional publishing company, you still own your work and get to decide who has access to it and how it is used; unlike self-publishing, we take on the workload of making your manuscript a book, including the administrative tasks, design, and editing. Depending on the tier of involvement we have, we also promote new ITN books through various marketing efforts. We work hard to make our pricing competitive, so you have options that fit your budget without sacrificing quality. We may not have the “pull” of the big guys, but we do have a team who has your best interests at heart and is pulling for you.

Are you a traditional publisher? Not exactly—we are a publishing service. This means that we use our teams of professional editors, designers, and publishing specialists to take your manuscript and turn it into a book. We give you the publishing experience, but you retain your rights as a self-publisher.

What's the difference between a Publisher and a Publishing Service? With a traditional publishing house, the publisher pays you upfront to essentially own the copyright to your book. For as long as you are contracted with that publisher, they maintain the rights to your work, including how that work may be used and shared. As a publishing service, we have no claim to your copyright; you maintain ownership of your work and choose what to do with it, including working with us. In addition, when it comes to royalties, the rate for authors is under 10% for traditional publishing (for paperback) per unit sold. However, if you are an ITN Author or part of the ITN Network, we only take a 10%–15% royalty per unit sold during our contract—you get the rest*! For our self-publishing services, we take no percentage of your royalties; we simply turn your manuscript into a book before handing the reins back to you to complete your publishing journey. *Costs associated with book sales can be complicated, but we’re happy to explain the breakdown.

What happens after I submit a manuscript? Our team reviews every manuscript thoroughly to understand your work and your voice as an author. Once your work is submitted, you should receive a form with questions about your work and your vision. We pair this with our review to know how best to proceed. Once our review is complete, you will receive an email letting you know if you’ve been accepted and what services are available to you, along with recommendations for services that best meet your needs. In some cases, we are unable to move forward with manuscripts. There are a variety of reasons why this may happen, but most often, it’s either because our team doesn’t have the bandwidth to support the work at this time or because we don’t believe our services and network to be a good fit. That doesn’t necessarily mean that the work is bad, but we may not have the right team to get this book to its highest potential or into the right audience’s hands.
